At ATP, my patients always receive thorough evaluations, progressive treatment plans and home exercise programs. ATP has a warm, comfortable and relaxed environment unlike any other clinic I have visited. Patients have the option to stay after their therapy has finished under the guidance of the qualified ATP trainers.

ATP’s one-on-one physical therapy hour treatments with my patients are invaluable. I recommend ATP to anyone in need of physical therapy or interests in improving their physical fitness.

Three years ago I suffered a dislocated right shoulder on my second day of learning to snowboard. After much deliberation over the best treatment, the decision for a non-operative approach was reached. I started standard physical therapy and saw minimal improvement. I took the recommendation of my wife about trying Pilates as rehabilitation for my injury. I chose ATP due to the diverse, well-trained staff and individualized approach they developed for my rehabilitation program. I noticed a significant improvement in my range of motion just after 4 to 5 sessions.

After three months of their Pilates-based physical therapy, I had excellent joint flexibility and strength, as well as enhanced coordination, posture, and breathing capacity. I continued with Pilates as a general body strengthening tool for a full year.

Later the next year, I suffered a dislocated left elbow from a high-speed bicycle crash. Needless to say, I started my rehabilitation right back at ATP. My orthopedic surgeon was amazed at the rapid return of strength, flexibility, joint stability and range of motion.”

I can’t say enough about the individualized rehabilitation program that ATP provided for me on these two occasions. As a surgeon, I needed to assure a complete and timely recovery from my injuries. ATP provided that for me.

When I first started Pilates, I couldn’t have told you an ab from a “glute”, a “pec” from a “delt”, a “quad” from a “bicep.” I had to assume all these curious-sounding muscles were hidden in my body, but I was at a loss to where they were exactly. But the mystery was soon to be revealed. Because that is what Pilates is about-exercising those very muscles through a series of movements to produce a stronger, toned body, a flatter stomach and better posture. Who doesn’t want this?

When I joined ATP’s Pilates Mat Class for people with MS, I had already tried a myriad of other exercise programs so I had reason to be skeptical. At the first session, I was instructed on how to breathe properly, then we progressed to the floor and stretching exercises. To my surprise, I felt looser and more relaxed than I had for some time.

As the weeks passed, I started to look forward more and more to those sessions with Tracey and her staff. And I became more aware of my posture, learning to breathe into my back and tightening the abdominal muscles. This may not sound like fun but actually it is when you see the results. Imagine how thrilled I was when on a recent visit to my neurologist he remarked on my straight, upright posture. “Its due to Pilates” I said without hesitation. Believe me, joining a Pilates class is a good move, and one you will not regret.

I walked into ATP Specific Training in April of 2000, on two crutches. From 1994, I had been suffering with hip pain, but I had decided to just limp along as best I could, figuring that was just part of the aging process. When the pain finally became too severe, I signed up for a hip replacement.

A month prior to surgery, a friend told me about ATP and she suggested that in the month preceding surgery, I should get in as good shape as possible to aid my recovery. Because of the extent of my disability, Dr. Chris Mallett had to first pry me away from the conviction that I was a crippled old woman. Luckily, the entire staff at ATP has been up to the task. In the one hour sessions I had at ATP, (most therapy is half that) all their therapists were informed, educated and sincerely interested in the welfare of their patients.

Chris Mallett not only expected more from me than even my doctors did, he knew how to get it. The very core of my quality of life has shifted- I can stand straight and flexibly, move without falling and trust my balance. That level of care and continuity comes only from a company that is fully dedicated… even when I was ready to give up, they never did.

Because of the extraordinary vision of ATP and their focus on core work, I learned to walk without a limp for the first time in over ten years. Additionally, when I hobbled into ATP in 2000, I had no idea that by June 2004, I would have lost 100 pounds and can now walk a brisk three miles!

I have been an active Pilates enthusiast since 1995. I was drawn to Pilates because it was the only exercise regiment that I could comfortably engage in, given my 25-year history with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). RA along with three knee replacement surgeries has made Pilates a constant in my life. I began Pilates as a physical therapy patient focusing on strengthening and increasing flexibility of the muscles and joint supporting my knees.

It was apparent immediately to me that I could derive a total overall body conditioning benefit utilizing all of the basic Pilates exercises. Considering that rheumatoid arthritis had impacted almost every joint in my body, Pilates offered a way to move my joints & life through a new range of motion.

A range of motion that has left me with only a vague memory of the pain I experienced following replacement of my right and left knees (Left knee was being replaced for a second time in 2001).

Currently, I am pursuing a certification to teach Pilates. I would like to especially cater to others like myself that have severe muscular skeletal disorders ranging from bad backs to stiff necks. I am a visible role model for potential Pilates and Physical Therapy clients and how a workout can be modified for anyone, regardless of physical ability.

I personally thank the expert staff of Pilates trainers and Physical Therapists at ATP for all the help and care they have given me. My formula for living pain free: “Pilates, nutrition, medication and blessings from above.”
